If you add money to Karat Banking from a connected bank account and the transfer is returned with code R29, your bank rejected the debit. R29 means “Corporate Customer Advises Not Authorized.” This happens with business bank accounts when the bank treats the debit as not authorized by the business. It is usually caused by an ACH debit block or filter on the account. It is most common with Chase business accounts.

How to complete the transfer

Send a wire from your bank

Instead of starting the transfer in Karat, log in to your bank and send a wire to your Karat Checking account. Your account and routing numbers are under Account Info in Banking > Move money > Add money. See Where do I find my account and routing number.

Allow Karat through your ACH debit block

  1. Add Karat as an approved payee in your bank’s ACH debit block settings. For Chase, follow Chase’s instructions for adding a payee to ACH Debit Block.
  2. Start the transfer again from Banking > Move money > Add money in Karat.
If the transfer is returned again, contact us. Karat is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking and Card services provided by Grasshopper Bank, N.A., First Internet Bank of Indiana, and Cross River Bank, Members FDIC.
