Karat Card rewards overview

Karat cardholders earn reward points in three categories of their choice. For every dollar you spend in your selected categories, you’ll earn 1 to 3x points, depending on the category. Most categories earn 3x points, while some earn 1 to 1.5x. You can choose from the following reward categories when you join the Karat Card.

Changing your rewards categories

Rewards categories can be updated every six months. To request a category change, contact us. At this time, we do not support fully custom reward categories beyond those offered.

How rewards are calculated

Rewards are based on the merchant’s category code (MCC), which is assigned by the Visa network. Transactions are categorized by the merchant, not by the individual items purchased. Because of this:
  • A purchase may not qualify if the merchant is not coded within your selected category.
  • Rewards cannot be split across items within a single transaction.
Merchant codes are defined by Visa. While we strive to align categories appropriately, some merchants may be categorized differently than expected.

Redeeming rewards

To redeem rewards, navigate to Credit Card > Rewards > Rewards Shop Choose the reward you’re interested in and redeem once you have enough points. If you redeem for a statement credit, the credit will automatically be applied to your next bill.

Common rewards FAQs

Do rewards expire?

Rewards do not expire.

Why was my purchase not rewarded?

Rewards are based on the merchant’s category code, not the item purchased. Because merchant codes are assigned by Visa, purchases may occasionally be categorized unexpectedly. For example, a computer purchased through Amazon may appear as a bookstore transaction. If you believe a purchase should have qualified for rewards, contact our team. We can review the transaction and confirm whether it qualifies under a different category.

Can rewards be split by item?

No. Transactions are categorized at the merchant level. If a transaction includes multiple items, we cannot separate rewards by individual product.

Planning a large purchase?

If you are planning a large purchase at a specific retailer, contact our team in advance. We can help confirm how the merchant is categorized and ensure your rewards are aligned appropriately.
