# Inviting co-owners to complete their information

> How LLC applicants invite beneficial owners to submit their own identity, SSN, or passport details during the Karat onboarding flow.

If your business is an LLC with multiple beneficial owners, you can invite each additional owner to complete their own ownership and identity information during the application instead of collecting and entering everything yourself.

## When to use owner invites

Owner invites are available during the ownership step of unified onboarding for LLC applications that list more than one beneficial owner. Use this option when:

* Another owner is more comfortable entering their own identity details, such as Social Security number or passport information.
* You don’t have an owner’s sensitive information on hand and would rather have them submit it directly.
* An international co-owner needs to submit passport details that you can’t enter for them.

For single-owner businesses, sole proprietors, and applications where you have every owner’s information ready, you can continue to fill out the ownership step yourself.

## Contact details for every owner

Every beneficial owner needs an email address and a U.S. phone number on the application, whether you’re filling out their details yourself or sending them an invite:

* **Applicant owner.** You enter your own phone number directly on your owner card during the ownership step. It’s no longer inherited from the phone number on your account, so you can list a different number if the owner-of-record and account holder use different phones.
* **Co-owners you fill out directly.** You provide both a U.S. phone number and an email address before you can continue.
* **Invited co-owners.** You provide the email address when you send the invite. The invited owner confirms or enters their own U.S. phone number when they open the invite link.

Owner phone numbers must be valid U.S. numbers. If a co-owner only has an international phone number, use the invite flow so they can complete the rest of their information themselves.

## Sending an invite

From the ownership step of your application:

1. Add the co-owner and enter their name, email address, and ownership percentage.
2. Select **Send invite** on that owner’s card.
3. The co-owner receives an email from Karat with a secure link to complete their portion of the application.

Once an invite is sent, that owner’s identity fields are locked on your side so the two of you don’t overwrite each other. The owner’s card shows the current invite status.

## Tracking invite status

Each invited owner shows one of the following statuses on the ownership step:

* **Pending**: The invite has been sent and is waiting on the owner.
* **Completed**: The owner has submitted their information. Their details are locked and can’t be changed from your side.
* **Expired**: The invite link has expired and is no longer valid. Resend the invite to generate a new link.
* **Revoked**: You canceled the invite. The link no longer works.

## Resending or revoking an invite

From the owner’s card on the ownership step, you can:

* **Resend invite**: Send a new email with a fresh link, for example if the original was lost or expired.
* **Revoke invite**: Cancel the invite. The existing link stops working immediately. After revoking, you can either enter the owner’s information yourself or send a new invite.

You can’t resend or revoke an invite once the owner has completed it.

## What the invited owner sees

The invited owner receives an email from Karat letting them know who invited them and asking them to complete their portion of the application. The link in the email takes them to a secure Karat page where they’ll:

1. Confirm or update their contact details, including phone number and mailing address.
2. Provide identity information, such as date of birth and nationality.
3. Submit their Social Security number, or for international owners, passport details.

The invited owner does not need to sign in or create an account. The link opens directly to their portion of the application.

If the link is invalid, expired, revoked, or has already been used, the page shows a clear message explaining the status so the owner knows what to do next, such as asking you to resend the invite.

## After an owner completes their invite

Once an invited owner submits their information:

* Their card on the ownership step updates to **Completed**.
* Their identity details, including Social Security number or passport information, are securely stored and can’t be edited or overwritten by you.
* You can continue with the remaining ownership entries and submit the application once every owner is either completed or filled out directly.

## Identity verification invites after you submit

If Karat needs a co-owner to complete additional identity verification after you’ve submitted your application, Karat automatically emails that owner a secure link: you don’t need to do anything to trigger it. When that happens:

* Only non-applicant beneficial owners who still need document verification receive an identity verification email. The applicant is never sent one.
* The email is sent once per owner. If it expires without being completed, Karat automatically resends it one time.
* The owner opens the link, confirms their U.S. phone number, and submits Social Security number or passport details, just like an ownership-details invite. They don’t need to sign in or create an account.
* On your dashboard, Karat banking shows **Your application is pending identity verification from other owners** until every required owner has completed verification. The applicant panel only indicates an email has been sent once Karat has actually sent it.
* You receive a confirmation email once the last required owner has completed verification, and your application is reviewed automatically. You don’t need to resubmit anything.

If a co-owner can’t locate their verification email, [contact our concierge team](https://help.trykarat.com/account-settings/contact-us.md) and we’ll resend it.
